This website has been almost a year in the making (start approx. may 2022, first published version march 2023). It is safe to say, that this is a "slow tech-culture website" ! And it is with great satisfaction and gratitude, that I have finalised the first version and can share it with the world. Making a website is demanding and challenging in itself - attempting to make a low-carbon artist' website from scratch for someone like me with no previous web developer/designer experience has also been a challenge. But here its is - the first iteration at least. Because this website will continue to grow with my abilities and the stuff I learn along the way. It is built with patience, frustrations and a lot of research. It's a continuous journey of maintaining and caring for words, images and connection through web technology. The website is far from perfect. The hours spent on it using a computer for all the research, tutorials and tests have honestly given space for doubt and reflections about the overall emissions reduction of the project. I do believe none the less, that the example it can serve as makes a difference. In the minds of other artists, creatives and the cultural industry. It is made with intent and a longing for a world of (digital) carbon awareness and action.
The guiding principle behind these pages has been the advice collected in The Checklist - a resource developed with fellow artist Sophy King. The Checklist is available
here to view and download in it's updated version (S23).
Decisions behind what you see displayed on these pages :
>
Type of delivery: This website is a static website (plain html and css - and no cookies ;)!).
>
Domain and hosting:
The site is hosted by
One.com
This host was chosen because of it's servers location in Denmark and because of the company's commitment to green hosting (see
report).
There are many more options out there for self-hosting, shared hosting etc. that I encourage you to check out. These might not be considered 'green' as in certified or using offsetting etc. but they might be considered 'green' in other senses meaning that they might contribute less to an extractive web infrastructure in general. When these two align it will be great.

Design:
- Font: Site uses one type of font (system font)
- Design elements: The few design elements chosen (such as link-color and minimal font styling) have been prioritized for standard web usability as well as in consideration of disabilities (although this site could and will in time do more for the latter certainly)
- Video: Videos (one atm) are compressed and have autoplay disabled
- Images: All images are avif <500 KB (=0.5mb) compressed using squoosh.app (with some being as small as 16kb)
> Tools used to make this website:
- Visual Studio Code
- Codecademy (front-end developer path, 19% finished, time flies:/)
- The support of my amazing partner
