BIO
Heidi is a visual artist who works with text, installation and objects that combine the use of the digital with foraged natural materials, ready-mades and archive material.
Originally from a Copenhagen suburb on Zealand, she is now based in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark (roughly 300,000 inhabitants). She is part of and chairperson of the artists’ studio collective
Corporum.
Heidi has studied Comparative Literature at Copenhagen University and holds a MFA from Funen Art Academy. She has participated in various activist work camps and programmes in Estonia, Cuba and the US. She has visited the spiritual island of Olkhon in Siberia, has completed a Vipassana silent retreat, worked with gardening in a buddhist retreat center in England and lived and studied in Moscow and Lisbon.
From 2017 to 2019 she co-founded and worked as programme director of the artist-run exhibition platform for contemporary art Organon in Odense facilitating solo shows, group exhibitions, film screenings, talks and book presentations.
In the fall of 2022 Heidi started studying natural medicine at the Nordic College of Natural Medicine and is currently interested in how approaches from natural medicine and cyclicality can inform the digital as well as artistic practice and sustainability in arts.
PRINCIPLES OF PRACTICE and COMMITMENT to regenerative non-extractive artistic practice methodologies
REGENERATIVE The work I make will support an economy that nourishes people and planet. Therefore I minimize engagement with industrial production and industrial materials virgin as well as recycled. I think about the way the work will be maintained, its life cycle and the waste associated with making it.
HEALTH
I work to minimize risks for all beings involved and prioritize the health of beings in the process of making work. This means being open about health issues and enquiring about safety measures whenever possible.
SEASONALITY
I work seasonally with limitations and availabilities of resources (emotional and material) and allow for the shifts in those conditions to influence my work. SOURCE I prioritize working with natural, local materials and local manufacturers.
HANDLING
The materials used will be handled mildly and with respect to the specificity related to them.
NON-DISCRIMINATORY, INTERSECTIONAL AND DECOLONIAL
I think about the way my work reflects and interacts with financial, racial, religious, social, mental and other factors when collaborating, accepting, selling and engaging in work. With the aim of always adding more than it takes, promoting equal, affirmative and open relationships.
